Description
IL-33, also known as interleukin-33, is a protein that belongs to the IL-1 superfamily. It is primarily produced by epithelial and endothelial cells and acts as an important cytokine involved in immune response and inflammation. IL-33 functions as an alarmin, which means it is released upon tissue damage and initiates an inflammatory response to recruit immune cells to the site of injury.
